REFLECTION
60 MINUTES - Vortex Productions/Arts Council - 1978
Reflection was the inspiration of Keith Critchlow, architect and lecturer in sacred geometry. The film explores the relationships of space and form in the vegetable, mineral and animal world and shows how these principles have guided temple builders. Sequences include visual re-creations of Theodor Schwenk's work on the effects vibrations of different kinds have on materials and the astro-archaeological and geometric patterns at stone circles such as Stonehennge and Moel-ty-Ucha in Wales.
Keith's work at Chartres broke new ground and showed the spatial relationships inherent in the structure focussing especially on the Maze and the West Rose Window. A final sequence sees his three children treading the maze to an extraordinarily moving piece of music composed by Mike Oldfield, and performed by him and Alan Hacker.
The film was made over a period of two years for an incredibly small amount of money, but with obsessive dedication by all involved. It was made in 16mm Eastman with stereo sound.
VHS copies can be obtained from the British Arts Council at (44 171) 333 0100.

MYSTERY IN THE PLAIN
30 MINUTES - Vortex Productions/NFFC/Rank Cinemas - 1980 - 35mm.
Despite British TV refusing to make programmes about megalithic monuments which involve more than digging holes in the ground, an enlightened film finance fund produced enough for us to make this.
It was the first film to explore the astroarchaeological links with Stonehenge, it function as a solar/lunar and eclipse predictor, and the unique position it occupies on the Salisbury Plain. It introduced the work of Prof.Alexander Thom; dowser Tom Graves and astronomer Gerald Hawkins.
